‘When you truly love someone’ is a piano soul ballad written by award-winning singer/songwriter John Galea. The music video, which stars former Emmerdale TV actress Gemma Oaten, faces the subject of bisexuality and Christianity. It is set in a famous old chapel in east London. During a wedding, the groom leaves his bride at the altar to return to his male love. The song takes inspiration from the artist’s life. John described ‘When you truly love someone’ as a poignant narrative to his personal struggle with the world of dating as a bisexual man: “I believe love transcends gender, and finding love can be a painful process so I wanted to write a song reflecting those feelings”.
